In the morning, meet your guide at your hotel and journey north, into the Carpathian Mountains.
Arrive in Sinaia, a picturesque mountain resort with deep ties to the Romanian royal family. Nearby, you’ll tour the fabulous 19th-century Peles Castle, an enchanting structure that that seems to spring from the pages of a storybook. Continue on to Sinaia Monastery, a complex comprising two churches: the original, built by the king’s brother in 1695 after a trip to the Holy Land, and the newer monastery, constructed in the mid-19th century.
Next, continue your journey at the incomparable Bran Castle. After the turn of the twentieth century, it was donated to the Romanian royal family and became the favorite home of Queen Maria, who extensively renovated the interior. During the Communist era, Bran became associated with the myth of Dracula, and the number of visitors increased dramatically. After a guided tour of the castle, spend some free time souvenir-shopping.
Next, arrive in the city of Brasov to enjoy a guided walk in the Old Town. Brasov stands as one of the seven cities originally founded by Saxon colonists in Transylvania over 800 years ago. Because of its location on the Transylvanian border, Brasov became an important trade center in the region. Most of the original Saxon architecture is still in magnificent condition. You’ll tour the vast Black Church, a Gothic monolith of the late 14th century.
Late in the afternoon, begin driving back to Bucharest. Your guide will escort you to your hotel.
